Gish is either scary (because people take him seriously) or hilarious, depending on my mood.

@Diana: I have only read a few issues of Archaeology magazine, but I remember it being generally fairly good. If you would like to read more about archaeology, it's probably a decent starting point. You may also want to check out books by Kent Feder and Brian Fagan.Anthroslughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02047686739793030565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3540283839479085577.post-26485197868470270852011-02-03T14:12:17.306-08:002011-02-03T14:12:17.306-08:00Sounds like you have the same type of problem I ha...Sounds like you have the same type of problem I have when teaching evolution to my Intro Biology course. I can go over the concepts and ideas (and refute the most common creationist arguments) and still have students come up with one other fact that supports their belief. And, yes, I can't always speak to that particular issue. And yes, after a while I'm ready to go on to the next topic and quit answering these seemingly endless lists of "questions." If you ever come up with a good solution let us all know, please!

By the way... What do you think about the magazine "Archeology"? Good, bad? I'm a lay person when it comes to archeology but I'm interested in exploring the topic at a low-key level.

Thanks!Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16328488668540053999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3540283839479085577.post-43074668153938327292011-02-03T08:36:39.055-08:002011-02-03T08:36:39.055-08:00Plus, given that they can produce such a huge numb...Plus, given that they can produce such a huge number of fallacious claims, one can quickly become bogged down trying to deal with the claims themselves even if you don't try to present the actual evidence.

That's the time-honored pseudo-science debate technique known as the Gish Gallop, named for Duane Gish of the Institute for Creation Research who perfected it.RBHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13562135000111792590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3540283839479085577.post-44901144102644867022011-02-02T21:35:47.745-08:002011-02-02T21:35:47.745-08:00Thanks for the heads-up.
